Yaucono through the Years

In 1896 Mr. Miguel Ruiz started the elaboration of coffee in Miramar, Puerto Rico. The operation would later be known as "Cafe Yaucono". Since then, we have been making quality coffee for the people that buy Yaucono; first from the rudimentary process used by Mr.Miguel Ruiz, later performed by new technologies that assure a faster delivery for all customers from around the world.

In 1911 Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez came from Spain to work with his Cousin-in-law in the process of coffee making.

Mr. Miguel Ruiz died in 1912 leaving the company in the hands of his heirs and Jiménez.

In 1914 Mr. Tomas Prado, owner of "The Coffee Co." creates the Yaucono brand. Jiménez falls in love with it.

Prado sells "The Coffee, Co." in 1916 and the heirs of Ruiz get the Yaucono name.

In 1917 the heirs of Ruiz sell the company to Mr. Agapito Miranda.
Jiménez quit his job and established his own company with Mr. Juan Fernández.

Miranda retires in 1918 and sells "The Coffee, Co." and the Yaucono brand to Jiménez.

In 1921 the lot in the Fernandez Juncos Ave. in Miramar, Puerto Rico is bought and the construction of the building begins.

1923. Fernández leaves for Spain and leaves Jiménez as the head of the company. He marries Marcela Gándara. They had three children: Maria Elena, Carmen Dora and José Enrique Jiménez.
The construction of the building ends and the workplace is installed in the first floor. In the second floor Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez and his family build their home.

Mr. Juan Fernández returns from Spain in 1931 and sells his part of the company to Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez.

In 1940 Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez incorporates in the original name Jimenez & Fernández Sucrs., Inc.

From 1941 to 1944, World War II brings limitations and hardship for Yaucono.

In 1950 Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez is forced to close the operation for 8 months. With the return of Yaucono after this short period, the demand for the product grew.

1955. Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez is forced to close for the second time during this decade. The return of the product created even more sales.

Mr. Jose Enrique (Quique) Jiménez begins to work in Yaucono in 1957.

In 1960, Jose Enrique is named Manager of the Sales and Marketing department.

Jose Enrique introduces Yaucono to the Puertorrican publicity era in 1963. Mama Inés consolidates as one of the biggest marketing symbols in our history.

In 1965 Mr. Tiburcio retires and Don Quique assumed the head of the company as President.

Mr. Tiburcio Jiménez dies in 1975.

1977. The rise on the price of coffee from $1.10 up to $3.80 creates an economic caos in the industry. Don Quique is forced to reduce production.

In 1978 Don Quique survives the crisis and Yaucono grows with more power and popularity than ever.

In 1985 Yaucono receives the highest award from the Puerto Rico Product Association: the International Award for Quality.

In 1986 Yaucono receives the Commercial Prestige Award from Spain.

1996. Yaucono passes the first century and enters its second.
Today, Yaucono has 40% of the market share on the Island!
